Our Accessibility Statement

Our Accessibility Statement Matthew Hagan MD, FACS

Our Commitment

Everyone should be able to learn about our practice, explore procedures and reach our team, including people with disabilities and people who use assistive technology. We treat accessibility as a basic requirement of how this website is designed, built and maintained, not as something added afterward.

The Standard We Follow

We design and test this website against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, the internationally recognized standard published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

How Accessibility Is Built Into This Site

  • Every page uses clear headings and page regions, so screen readers and other assistive technology can move through it easily.
  • The whole site works with a keyboard alone. Keyboard focus is always visible, and every page starts with a “Skip to content” link.
  • Text and controls meet WCAG color-contrast requirements, and links within paragraphs are underlined so they don’t rely on color alone.
  • Images have text descriptions, and purely decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
  • Pages adapt to small screens and to browser zoom up to 400% without scrolling sideways.
  • If your device is set to reduce motion, animations are turned off and the homepage slideshow stays still. Moving content can also be paused.
  • Form fields have visible labels and say which information is required.

No Accessibility Overlays

This site doesn’t use an accessibility overlay or widget. Overlays try to change a website after it loads, and they often conflict with the screen readers, magnifiers and browser settings people already rely on. Instead, accessibility is built into the site’s code and design, so it works with the tools you already use: your browser’s zoom and text settings, your device’s accessibility features and your assistive technology.

How We Test

We test every page at desktop and mobile screen sizes with automated accessibility testing, and we check by hand what automated tools can’t judge, including keyboard navigation, focus visibility, text over images, zoom and reflow. We test again whenever the site changes.

Known Limitations

  • Maps. The maps on our Contact and Consultation pages are provided by Google and may not be fully accessible. Our address, phone number and hours are always listed as text on those pages.
  • Documents. Dr. Hagan’s Curriculum Vitae is a PDF that may not work well with screen readers. We’re happy to provide it in another format.

Feedback and Assistance
